Rev. Bill Worth
with "The Heart of Huna"
Rev. Bill Worth has spent all of his adult life
writing. His long career in newspaper journalism
eventually led him to writing novels. His first
novel, House of the Sun, is based on his study of
Huna and his experiences on Maui, including
conversations with a native Hawaiian who wrote
a column for a weekly newspaper here.
In 1994 he became interested in Unity ministry
and was accepted at Unity’s seminary. In 1996
he graduated and was ordained Rev. Bill served
as a Unity minister from 1996-2009.
In 2009, Rev. Bill left church ministry to devote
full time to writing. He completed a spiritual
novel, The Hidden Life of Jesus Christ, rewrote
House of the Sun and began planning the next
two volumes of the Sun trilogy. Rev. Bill and his
wife Nancy moved to Redmond, Washington
outside Seattle, where Nancy is the Senior
Minister of Unity of Bellevue and Rev. Bill is

HOUSE OF THE SUN
A Metaphysical Novel of Maui
By Rev. Bill Worth
Get a signed copy of Rev. Bill Worth’s
new Maui novel............
$15.99 A 20% discount—January 29, 2012
The novel tells the story of Keli’i, a young Maui boy
who has special powers – and an indelible connection
with Madame Pele, the Hawaiian goddess of fire.
Keli’i is apprenticed to Joshua, an elderly kahuna, to
learn the secrets of the ancient Hawaiian mysteries of
the Huna.
Keli’i spends years learning the mystical spiritual
practice – and struggling to become a kahuna himself.
He is drawn to Haleakala, Maui’s majestic volcano
known as the House of the Sun. In Haleakala’s
massive crater, he repeatedly is challenged by
Madame Pele as he seeks to learn the ways of the
Huna.
The mountain also brings him the two loves of his life.
One he loses, in a tragic accident at sea; the other he
gains by saving her life. Her name is Aimee, a tourist
who is the daughter of renowned televangelist
Jeremiah Justice. The interaction between Aimee and
Keli’i illuminates the difference between the gentle
spirituality of the Huna and the harsh beliefs of the
religious right
.
The novel concludes with a climactic clash between
Jeremiah and Keli’i on the slopes of Haleakala, as
Madame Pele makes a final, dramatic appearance.
The novel was inspired when Bill and his wife, Nancy
(now Senior Minister at Unity of Bellevue), lived on
Maui in the 1980s, where they published a weekly
newspaper in La-haina.
“… I didn’t want this book to end, it is an inspired
work, worthy of both study and entertainment.” -
Alan Cohen, author of A Deep Breath of Life
**Unity Church of Maui has a new minister, Rev Blaine Tinsely.** See church update for more details.
